Potato Salad is near and dear to my heart. At family functions, be it Thanksgiving or the cookout, I believe there are 2 dishes which we need to identify and verify the cook before giving the green light to our plates and bellies; and that is Mac n' Cheese and Potato Salad.
Growing up in my family my aunt Tina was and still reigns as the potato salad queen! She is responsible for making it and/or having it be present at the family cookouts even in her absence, it's that damn good! When I became serious about cooking I was clear that my potato salad had to be great like my aunt Tina's so I started making my version inspired by her tried and true recipe through my taste buds' memories.
Although my potato salad recipe is mostly inspired by my aunt Tina's, at it's root it is built upon my mom Art's genius potato salad hack which I will share in the potato salad master class next week!
Later on when I got my first professional cooking job at Catfish Friday's, a soul food carry out and catering company in Washington, DC , I learned some more tricks and added my own stank on it which made my recipe even better. Needless to say, I am proud to report that at the ripe old age of 36 my potato salad skills have reached auntie level!
Naturally, when I was asked to participate Black In Space: A virtual black pride experience by way of teaching a class on making potato salad, I was game!
So, Meet Me In Space next Tuesday for Hold The Raisins: A Potato Salad Master Class! Check out the other amazing events and out of this world lineup that Black In Space has to offer!
